Perimenopause. A word I had barely heard until recent years… when I started wondering if I was slowly losing my mind. 😆
I start something, walk away to do one little thing, and find myself doing something completely different. Somewhere along the way, that first task disappears from my brain entirely.
There are not enough styles of to-do lists, checklists, or weekly planners in the world to make me consistently follow one. And trust me, looking at this pile, I have tried. 😂
I write things down. I make the lists. I buy another planner, convinced this will be the one that gets me together. Then I still manage to miss a meeting or forget to wish someone I love a happy birthday.
Meanwhile, Bill finds the hard-boiled eggs still cooling in the sink that I completely forgot about. Or the back of my car still open after I started unloading Little Fish displays and wandered off to tackle something else.
So many things started. So few things finished. I feel like I’m hopping in a circle from one task to the next, getting distracted somewhere between every single one.
And somehow my recent obsession with Off-Campus has me feeling 21 again. Thank you, Garrett Graham. But then a quick reminder that I am in my mid 40’s as I pull a muscle in my back putting on my yoga pants.🤦🏼
Yes, I’m trying all the things so many of us start exploring in our mid-40s as we try to understand what is happening with our bodies. But some days, I have to laugh at myself. Otherwise, I might cry over a sink full of eggs.
If I had to pick a word for 2026 so far, “overwhelmed” would probably be it. And I don’t love that. I want to feel clear, creative, present, and excited about all the things I’m working on. Instead, so many days feel foggy, and I end up busy all day without knowing what I actually finished.
Then that feeling of failure creeps in. A customer I forgot to get back to. Something my family needed. A friend I meant to check on. Another moment when what I intended to do and what I actually did don’t quite match.
I’m sharing this because behind Little Fish is a woman who loves what she does and cares deeply about the people in her life… and is having a harder time keeping up than she would like to admit.
I don’t have a tidy ending or a magical planner to recommend. I’m still figuring this out, trying to give myself a little grace while also finding ways to show up for the people counting on me.
If you’re somewhere in this season too, I hope you feel a little less alone.
And maybe go check the sink. There might be eggs. 🤍
